Greenhouse Gases

It also turns out that warming due to CO2 is logarithmic, which means that doubling CO2 will not double the amount of warming, but the affects become less significant with more CO2 in the atmosphere. This is illustrated well by the following graph from the Australian Climate Research Group. This effectively prevents a runaway greenhouse effect and so-called catastrophic climate change. Taking this logarithmic growth is key to understanding the role greenhouse gases play on the atmosphere.
